My telegram To. 101 [of September 2rd: Relief fund].

It seems from a telegram from British Chamber of Commerce

to China Association and from one from "Times" correspondent

in Shanghai that it is not realised that fund is intended to

care for British subjects as well as Chinese. China

Association are telegraphing to explain and suggesting that Chamber make contact with you. You will no doubt give them

assistance and also help to clear up their doubt. The public

appeal was for 'relief of distress in China" and contained

the sentence "The resources of British hospitals are breaking

down under the strain of emergency service, while there are also British subjects in urgent need of help".
